The St. Thomas More Catholic Chapel at the University of South Carolina exists to promote the spiritual and moral well-being of those who regularly visit the center. The primary purpose of the ministry is to help students know, love and serve Jesus Christ, to allow them to encounter and grow in their Catholic faith, and establish a moral and spiritual framework in order to use the gifts and opportunities granted to them after graduation to better themselves and the world around them. The St. Thomas More Chapel also serves the broader University of South Carolina community and surrounding businesses and residents.

Job Description

The purpose of the Director of Advancement position is to facilitate all phases of fundraising and donor-engagement for the financial viability of St. Thomas More Catholic Chapel at the University of South Carolina. This position works closely with the Pastor, ministry staff, volunteers, and especially current and prospective donors to build the reach and influence of the Catholic community at Saint Thomas More. This full-time position will solicit and steward funds related to both capital campaign and annual fund efforts.

  • Establish a fundraising plan on an annual basis to include:
    • The creation and management of all annual fundraising mailers and e-marketing appeals
    • The management of the advancement office budget
    • The management of the data base of donors
    • The management of various fundraising and donor cultivation events
    • Directing the monthly donor-giving process
    • Facilitating social media marketing, event photography and efforts that connect the work of the ministry directly to the donor base
  • Manage the annual offertory program
  • Maintain a consistent presence on the campus of Saint Thomas More. The position requires both weekend and after-hours commitments.
  • Lead or facilitate campaign initiatives as directed by the Pastor and Leadership Committee(s)
  • Grow and adapt as the advancement office responsibilities increase and new fundraising opportunities arise
  • Possess no less than a bachelor’s degree, preferably a graduate degree, from an accredited university
  • Possess strong writing and verbal skills for consistent donor correspondence
  • Possess strong sales and relationship management skills
  • Have a strong adherence to the Catholic faith and it’s spiritual and moral principles
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software
  • Possess strong multi-tasking abilities
